Heart Rhythm Scanner Professional Edition
How the System Is Used
Assessment of Autonomic Nervous System Function
The Heart Rhythm Scanner Professional Edition enables professionals to assess autonomic nervous system regulation using established heart rate variability (HRV) testing protocols. The system supports three standard tests that provide complementary information about cardiovascular autonomic control.
Autonomic Balance Test (Short-Term Resting HRV Test)
This test evaluates baseline autonomic balance during a short resting period. The recorded HRV parameters provide insight into overall autonomic regulation and the balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic activity.
Baroreflex Function Test (Deep Breathing Test)
During paced deep breathing, the system measures respiratory sinus arrhythmia, a well-known marker of parasympathetic (vagal) activity. The results help evaluate the responsiveness of cardiac vagal control.
Cardiovascular Health Test (Stand-Up (Orthostatic) Test)
The orthostatic test assesses autonomic cardiovascular regulation during a postural change from sitting or lying to standing. The system analyzes the heart rate response and HRV dynamics associated with this physiological challenge.
Together, these standardized HRV tests provide a practical and informative approach for evaluating autonomic nervous system function in professional settings.

Software Interface
Visual tools for recording, reviewing, and analyzing HRV data
The Heart Rhythm Scanner software provides a clear and intuitive interface for conducting HRV tests, reviewing ECG signals, and analyzing autonomic nervous system responses.

Main application screen
The main screen provides quick access to client records and HRV tests. The left panel displays the list of clients, while the right panel shows the tests associated with the selected client. The toolbar at the top provides the main actions available for the selected client or test.
To begin, the user selects a client from the list, chooses the desired HRV test, and either starts a new recording or opens a previously recorded test report.
Taking an autonomic balance test
During the short-term resting HRV test, the software displays the physiological signals in real time to allow continuous monitoring of the recording quality and heart rhythm dynamics. The lower panel shows the live ECG waveform, enabling clear visualization of individual heartbeats. The heart rate graph presents the beat-to-beat heart rate changes over time, while the HR scatter chart provides a graphical view of heart rate variability by plotting consecutive heartbeat intervals.

Heartbeat verification and editing
The heartbeat editing screen allows the user to review and refine automatically detected heartbeats to ensure accurate HRV analysis. The lower panel displays the raw ECG waveform, enabling clear visualization of individual heartbeats, while the upper panel shows the corresponding heart rate graph. Dedicated editing tools allow the user to detect missed heartbeats, insert artificial beats when necessary, and remove incorrectly detected beats.
Autonomic balance assessment report
This assessment report presents the results of the short-term HRV test in a clear and structured format. The report summarizes the key HRV parameters calculated from the recorded RR intervals and provides graphical representations that help visualize autonomic regulation during the resting period. Charts and numerical values allow the user to quickly evaluate heart rate dynamics, variability patterns, and overall autonomic balance.

Taking a baroreflex function test
The deep breathing test screen provides real-time monitoring of the subject’s heart rhythm during paced respiration. The screen displays the live ECG waveform along with graphs that show heart rate dynamics and variability. In addition, a visual breathing pacer guides the subject to follow the required breathing rhythm throughout the test.
Baroreflex function assessment report
The baroreflex function report summarizes the results of the paced breathing test and presents the heart rate responses associated with respiratory cycles. The report displays graphical representations of heart rate changes during inhalation and exhalation, allowing the user to observe respiratory sinus arrhythmia and the degree of heart rate modulation produced by controlled breathing. Numerical parameters derived from the recorded RR intervals are also provided to quantify the autonomic response.

Taking a cardiovascular health test
The stand-up test screen displays the subject’s physiological response during the transition from rest to standing. The interface shows the live ECG waveform along with graphs of beat-to-beat heart rate changes and variability throughout the test. As the subject changes posture, the system records and visualizes the dynamic heart rate response associated with the orthostatic challenge (heart rate acceleration and recovery).
Cardiovascular health assessment report
The stand-up test report summarizes the cardiovascular response to the postural change from rest to standing. The report presents graphical representations of heart rate dynamics during the different phases of the test, allowing the user to observe the characteristic heart rate increase after standing and the subsequent stabilization. Numerical parameters derived from the recorded RR intervals are also provided to quantify the autonomic response to the orthostatic challenge.

Typical Test Workflow
Simple and structured HRV assessment process
The Heart Rhythm Scanner Professional Edition guides the user through a clear and efficient workflow for conducting HRV assessments. A typical test session includes the following steps:

1. Prepare the subject and attach ECG electrodes
Disposable ECG electrodes are placed on the subject’s chest and connected to the ECG recorder to ensure a reliable signal.

2. Select the client and test protocol
The user selects the client record and chooses the desired HRV test protocol, such as the short-term resting HRV test, deep breathing test, or stand-up test.

3. Perform the selected test
The system records the ECG signal while displaying the waveform and heart rate dynamics in real time. The client performs all required testing maneuvers.

4. Disconnect the subject and dispose of electrodes
After the recording is completed, the electrodes are removed and disposed of according to standard hygienic procedures.

5. Verify detected heartbeats if necessary
Automatically detected heartbeats can be reviewed and corrected using visual editing tools to ensure accurate HRV analysis.

6. Analyze test results, review and store the report
The software calculates HRV parameters and generates graphical and numerical summaries of the test results. The test report can be reviewed, stored in the client record, and exported if needed.
